Patch testing for semi-permanent make-up tattooing
Patch testing is a straight forward and simple process for therapists to ensure clients aren’t allergic to any of the products used, before the treatment commences.
Please schedule this at least 48 hrs before the treatment.
I don’t do patch test and treatment on the same day.
Expect that I will perform the patch test behind your ear, slightly scratching the skin with a lancet and then I will dap a small amount of pigment there. You have to observe the area up to 48 hours, this also means you shouldn’t wash your hair or get the area wet. If you have an allergic reaction it will indicate as itchy skin, red, sore, flared skin. You can ask someone at home to check the area for you as well. If you notice any of those, wash the area with water and let me know. You can also take anti-histamine tablets. This is a positive result to allergy which means you can’t have the treatment done. There is a refund of deposit in case of positive testing, however it needs to be proved with photograph and you have to be in the 48 hrs time frame.
Patch testing for semi-permanent make-up tattooing

- Plan to schedule your top-up session within the first 6-8 weeks. It’s your responsibility to maintain your top-up and color boost appointments.
- All new tattoos ( eyebrows, eyeliner, lips ) include 2 sessions ( first treatment and top-up visit) for complete and long lasting look.
- First treatment usually brings 70% satisfaction and color retention, however without the top-up session your semi-permanent make-up tattoo won’t last as long as it should
- Our skin needs 6-8 weeks to recover and heal fully, within this time frame the colour and shape changes, so don’t judge the initial results at the beginning of the healing process
- Trust the time and be patience
- All after-care should be followed once you had your top-up appointment done same as it was with the initial treatment
- Color may fade or soften anywhere from 10% to 50% or more. During the top-up session, we’ll fine-tune any areas that have faded excessively.
- Achieving your desired result may require more than two treatments (initial procedure + top-up), depending on your discretion.
- We can’t guarantee how well your skin will hold the ink. If your eyebrows fade significantly after the top-up treatment, it may be because your skin has rejected the ink. You can choose whether to have them topped up again.
- It’s important to realize that you may need a color boost from six months onwards to maintain a fresh, natural appearance.
- As we age, our skin changes, and semi-permanent makeup may eventually appear more powdered. This is common with all semi-permanent makeup procedures.
- Smoking can cause the pigment to fade prematurely, and anesthesia won’t last as long.
- If you’re exposed to the sun frequently, have oily skin, use anti-aging creams or retinol products, undergo regular chemical peels, or engage in frequent exercise, your makeup may fade prematurely.
