Pre-care for all facial treatment

Here are some important points to consider before a facial:

  • Know your at-home products: Your esthetician may ask about your daily skincare routine to provide better advice tailored to your skin type and concerns.
  • Avoid waxing or shaving up to 48 hours before a facial to prevent skin sensitivity and discomfort during the treatment.
  • Don’t book a facial after receiving Botox, you have to wait 2 weeks.
  • Consider your plans: Your skin may appear slightly red immediately after a facial, so it’s wise to avoid important events like date night on the same day.
  • Check your medication: If you’re taking oral medication known to thin the skin, like Roaccutane, it’s recommended to discontinue use up to 3 months before a facial.
  • Avoid sunbathing and tanning beds at least one week before your treatment to prevent sunburn. Newly-exfoliated skin is more sensitive to the sun, so apply sunscreen before going outside.
  • Don’t over-exfoliate in the days leading up to your facial, as most facials include exfoliation and excessive exfoliation can make your skin more sensitive.
  • Don’t wash your hair before facial, it’s hard to avoid products, oil getting into your hair, and to enjoy and benefit from the facial massage we also like to touch your scalp area.

Post-care for all facial

One crucial aspect to remember about any treatment is that there’s no quick fix. Facials, like any other beauty treatment, should be viewed as just one part of a broader skincare regimen. If you haven’t established a consistent daily skincare routine, a single facial won’t yield transformative results. It’s also important to understand that you’re unlikely to walk out of the salon with perfectly poreless skin. In fact, you may experience a breakout in the days following a treatment. This is because facials draw impurities deep within your pores to the surface. For some individuals, the skin may worsen before it improves. However, facials ultimately detoxify the skin by removing years of accumulated sebum and dead skin cells from the pores, leaving your face feeling thoroughly cleansed and hydrated.

Here are some tips to care for your skin after a facial:

  • Don’t wear makeup immediately following a facial for 6-8 hours, or ideally overnight, to allow your skin to benefit fully from the treatment and prevent blocked pores.
  • Avoid other facial treatments for 48 hours to prevent irritation or aggravation of exfoliated skin.
  • Care for your skin by avoiding sunbathing, sunbeds, saunas, hot tubs, baths, or hairdryers against your face for the next 12-24 hours, as your skin may be more sensitive.
  • Avoid using perfumed or exfoliating products ( acids)  on your face for a couple of days after a facial, and use SPF sunscreen to protect your skin.
  • Between facials, cleanse, tone, and moisturize your face daily to prevent makeup from damaging your skin and rehydrate it from daily life’s drying effects. Use broad-spectrum sunscreen daily and maintain a healthy lifestyle by eating a diet rich in fruits and vegetables and drinking plenty of water.
  • If you use Retinol, please don’t for 7 days and the slowly start introducing it back.
  • Avoid touching your face
  • Avoid sauna, steam and swimming, heavy sweating for 7 days
  • You could possibly experience dry/flaky skin for couple of days, this is the indication of cell turnover and that your skin is renewing itself, just stay moisturized whilst this!
